Art Dubai 2017 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

As the world’s most global art fair, Art Dubai is the preeminent platform to interact with art from the Middle East and North Africa. Art Dubai has become the essential gathering place for collectors, artists and art professionals from across the region and beyond.
The 11th edition of Art Dubai takes place March 15-18, 2017, at Madinat Jumeirah. Besides the gallery halls, the fair’s extensive programme includes commissioned projects and performances, artists’ and curators’ residencies, educational workshops, the unveiling of works by the winners of the annual Abraaj Group Art Prize and the critically acclaimed Global Art Forum.

Global Art Forum 11: Trading Places explores the relationship between the economy of goods and ideas that constantly shape who and where we are. From ancient ports to the “New Silk Road” to algorithmic financial markets, the infrastructure of trade is also a geography of imagination and invention. The Forum convenes the most compelling minds from the fields of art, history, economics, philosophy, urbanism, literature and more to tell untold histories and stories of the making and remaking of the world through trade.

For this year’s edition of the Art Dubai Bar, Moroccan-born, Brooklyn-based artist Meriem Bennani, will create an interactive installation titled Ghariba/Stranger, featuring playful video portraits of Moroccan women. The bar area will feature viewing pods for visitors to watch Meriem’s videos, inspired by public places that encourage social interactions amongst strangers and reminiscent of beauty salons or entertainment parks.
